Instructional Designer Perspective.
ICTS 2.1 is the only simulation design tool that comes with an extensive
web-based graphical user interface. It allows instructional designers to
create entire simulation (or modify it) without any programming
knowledge or background. Instructional designers
create branching story for the simulation by dragging graphical containers of different color
representing character, character actions, replies, dialogs and response choices to
the simulation palette and connecting them with the arrows to define simulation flow.
Containers can be connected, disconnected and re-arranged at any time.
Double-clicking container opens a pop-up window with a form that allows
instructional designer to enter and modify relevant information. The information might include dialog / choice and reply text,
robot's actions in response to a specific choice (such as non-verbal responses), as well as score and text assessment for each choice.
The graphical user interface provides an easy visualization of the entire
story and access to any part of the simulation impossible to achieve with any other tool.
Trainee Perspective. Trainee logs into the Second Life training area
and clicks the "Start" button to begin the simulation. Robotic "actors"
appear, talk to trainee, perform other actions as defined in the branching story scenario. Each following
action depends on trainee's response. After the simulation is completed trainee
recevies meaningful feedback and trainee's performance is automatically scored.
Robotic "actors" not only provide appropriate verbal response, but non-verbal clues -- gestures, face mimics, sounds -- as
well. ICTS 2.1 engine allows for uploading custom animations uniquely suited for
business communications.
Trainee may repeat simulation multiple times until he reaches desired outcome. All information
(who used the simulation and when; what was the result of each session) is recorded in a
back-end database (on your network, outside the Second Life) and is available for the review by authorized
instructor(s), training manager(s) and administrator(s).
Training Manager / Administrator Perspective. Training Manager, Instructor and Administrator
have full access to the training results of a group of trainees they are authorized to access.
They can search and review training results by various parameters, as well
as review and update simulation flow. They can also be present in the Second
Life during training sessions to observe trainees' performance and/or provide
feedback.
